That left Selene and me to start a fire. I brought together a pile of tinder and dry leaves when Selene crouched down beside me. She blew gently into the leaves and they erupted into flames that fed hungrily on the pile of tinder. I had never seen magic like this before, so I was fascinated by the trick. She muttered a word under her breath and dad stepped out of the way. Mom thrust her hand forward and the blue ball floated and it tried to get out of the grip. Its flame was slowly burning out. My mom screamed an incantation and she fisted her hand. The ball disappeared in a thin smoke. “Morning, dear.” My mom said putting the scroll down. I felt my skin burning. She turned to dad.

“Good. Tomorrow morning, 6 a.m. sharp. I’ll send you the address. Don’t be late.” “Six a.m.?” I repeated, caught off guard. “Is that going to be a problem?” she asked, her voice daring me to say yes. “No,” I said quickly. “No problem. I’ll be there.” “Bring nothing but your focus, an open mind, and a willingness to be challenged. You won’t need anything else.” I swallowed hard. “What should I expect?” “You don’t need to know that yet,” she said firmly. “Just be prepared for the unexpected. The first step in learning magic is often the hardest.”

I murmur, thinking back to the smile he had on his face just telling me about the show. “You came all the way out here for him, If he isn’t impressed by that, he won’t be impressed by anything else.” With a small chuckle, I decide I like Prof. Obscuro. Together we go through the first page of the textbook, and whether or not he is good at magic, it doesn’t show, magic is extremely difficult. The nurse comes to tell me my time is up and I still can’t figure out how to make a coin disappear. It’s extremely frustrating.
