And saw it. ⸻ The empty space. ⸻ The missing things. ⸻ The absence. ⸻ She was gone. ⸻ Aaron stood there— still. ⸻ Then exhaled slowly. ⸻ “She needs space,” he murmured. ⸻ Repeating what he had accepted earlier. ⸻ But it felt different now. ⸻ Because space— felt a lot like distance. ⸻ ⸻ His phone rang again.

Across the room, Mom and Dad's expressions turned grim too. Dad pulled out his phone and dialed the academy. The administrator who picked up explained that this was just a standard residual reaction to "Deep Behavioral Conditioning" and that it would wear off in a few days. He promised, "Rest assured, Unit 1314 is currently our most outstanding graduate. He understands the mechanics of obedience better than any AI on the market. This is all completely within parameters." Dad hung up the phone and relayed the exact words to Mom. Mom nodded, and they both let out a sigh of relief.

Fall into little space. "Of course, I'll be a few doors down in the office." I smile and back away out of the room. Before turning, I notice the gleeful smile plastered on her cute little face as she sits in front of the doll house. I pull out my phone to text the guys what I've witnessed. Me: Jessica loves the playroom. She's playing right now. Jordan: You showed her? Jacob: No shit, he just said he showed her. I can't wait to see her in a little space.
