We sighed and kept our words to ourselves till we reached a dead end. Kilian parted his lips to complain, but a look from Salvador caused him to keep shut. Kilian turned towards me and signaled to me to check the time. I looked at my wristwatch and raised my brows. It was a minute until it struck midnight, which meant that it was not yet time for the revelation. “Just a minute left,” I said to Killian through the mind-link. The moment it struck midnight, darkness slipped into the cave and a cold gush of wind swept past us, followed by chilling whispers of ancient words and strange giggling.

The second ransom call had made everything painfully clear. We had until midnight.
