A minute to midnight. There was a hush in the room as the full moon rose to its peak. I counted the seconds in my head. And then it was midnight. There were whispers of 'mate' from all around me as people found the ones they were destined to be with, but I had eyes only for the man at my side. I felt an irresistible pull towards Jason. It was stronger than anything I had ever felt before. By the trembling in his arms and shoulders, I knew he felt it too.

Just watching them brought this warm feeling in her chest. Then a small curious part of her mind wondered what he would look like without the mask. The meal took longer to be ready, but Almira almost didn't notice until Kitanna served the bowl of sauce and white rice. "You're twenty minutes late", She stated. Dante glanced worriedly at Kitanna. "I apologize, your highness. We'll work with time next time", Dante apologized. "I think you're just being grumpy, princess", Kitanna said at the same time.

She began, "Incase you have forgotten, this is a loveless marriage and we signed a contract which would expire in less than fifteen months. You have your life to live and so do I. After our contract ends, I'll go back to my life." She paused to catch her breath.

Chapter One The notification goes live at 12:03 a.m. Most people don’t notice it right away. Midnight notifications are easy to ignore—another bored scroll, another face glowing in the dark. But for the ones who do click, the screen opens to something oddly quiet. No music. No filter. No bright smile. Just Lila Monroe, framed too close, her face pale in the bluish light of her phone. The familiar background of her bedroom looks different tonight—messier, shadows stretching too long across the walls. Her hair is pulled back like she’s been running her hands through it too many times.

Miranda walked over and drove the heel of her shoe straight down onto the back of my hand. "You're just a grease monkey. What makes you think you're some kind of savior? Leon, don't waste time talking to him. Lock him in solitary. We'll deal with him after the alarm stops." I looked at the timer on the wall. Seventeen minutes left before the core blew. "If the core blows up, none of us will make it out alive!" I shouted at Leon, spit hitting his boots.

The music was blasting, and Romero was already there with a beer in his hand.

She had planned to leave by midnight, just enough time to return, sleep for a few hours, and be presentable for the early morning church service Grandma Janet insisted on. But midnight came and went. So did 1 a.m., 2 a.m., and 3. It wasn’t until few minutes to 5 a.m. that Valerie, slightly more sober and ever the lookout, clutched Anita’s arm and said urgently, “Girl, you need to go. Now.”

I then readjusted the guns on the wall to my liking, putting all the different brass knuckles in one box afterwards. I closed the door behind me as I jumped on my bed, finally done with all of it. "Two more minutes and I'll head down," I thought to myself. It was 4:30 p.m, so I still had time. Or at least, that's what I thought until my father's voice boomed throughout the house. "Athena Hendrix! Down here now!" I flinched, quickly getting up and tilting my head in confusion. "I thought he said til five," I spat.

What could go wrong? "Send Max in?" I called my secretary as I walked into my cabin. "He is not yet in, madam," my secretary replied. "Really? How irresponsible! We have a meeting in 15 minutes. Send him in as soon as he enters." I was boiling in anger by the time a young man entered my cabin. "Max, do you want to get fired......who are you?" I stopped when I saw the stranger. He was a human. "Max will not be coming, Madam Luna," he said.

Grace's POV It seems like eternity later but we made it to the house in one piece, it looks very different closer with so sign of occupants. "It looks abandoned," The smaller girl said, her voice stronger than when we talked in the house. "We can't be too sure until we check," the second girl replied. After a few seconds of rapid knocks the door opens to reveal the silhouette of a woman. We have no idea what time it is but it is quite obvious it pass midnight.
