Alexa padded closer, her paws silent on the soft earth, until we reached the edge of the lake. I caught her reflection in the water, and my breath hitched. She was a silver wolf, her fur shimmering like moonlight, with patches of white woven through it. “You’re beautiful,” I whispered, stunned. Silver and white wolves were rare—almost unheard of. I’d never seen one in person, and now here I was, staring at my own wolf. “We’re rare, Alexa. Did you know that?”

She said, and Veronica’s teary eyes darted from her father, and back to her mother. “What is it?” Veronica asked her. “You see, in our lineage, as silver wolves, there is something really significant. We as silver wolves don't leave our pack, except in a case where a female silver wolf gets married and moves to another pack. Aside from this reason, if a silver wolf moves to another pack all of a sudden for no genuine reason and stays there, the pack will begin to experience tragedy until the wolf leaves, and goes back to where they should really be.” She explained carefully, while Veronica listened with rapt attention.
