Once she had attended to two other girls she helped to wash my long blonde hair with a water jug. “Martha, what is the Awakening?” She sighed, “you’re obviously a bit older than most but you’ve been sheltered. It is the period when you first meet and eventually are accepted by a wolf spirit. Normally happens when you’re a teenager.”

Alternating pov: Dawn had barely touched the horizon when the pain woke me—sharp, rolling, electric. My whole body trembled, skin too tight, bones burning. I gasped and clutched the blankets, trying not to scream. The door flew open. “Sera.” Kade was already at my side, dropping to his knees. He must have been waiting. Watching. Ready. “It’s starting,” I breathed, voice shaking. “I know, baby. I’ve got you.” He swept me into his arms, holding me like I weighed nothing.

Thinking I was bleeding, I lifted my shirt—only to see that the diamond-shaped mark on my waist had vanished. “Awakening has three stages: first, you live like an ordinary person. A U T H O R N O T E I wanted to address the few comments I've received from people frustrated with me only posting a chapter at a time. When Rude Awakenings was signed three months ago, I had just given birth to my third child. I vastly underestimated how popular it would be, and thought I would have a lot more time to write a sequel. Seeing the overwhelming response for Book Two, I made the decision to post my chapters as I write them. Believe me when I say I completely understand how frustrating it is to wait for a chapter, especially when you are so engrossed in a story, but I wanted you all to know that every piece of spare time I have, is spent writing this book. I'm trying my hardest
