I warned with gritted teeth. “Gearing allies for our cause shouldn’t be your responsibility, Edward. I am the king and this is my job as king to make sure the kingdom is ready,” he stated firmly. “No, it’s not the responsibility of the king alone, it’s the responsibility of every royal born. I learned that a long time ago.” I knew what being royal meant. It meant sacrificing one’s happiness for the kingdom, and now I feel like I am a hypocrite for not practising what I preached for so long.

I had always assumed Dew thrived in his role, that he wore his title with pride and confidence. But hearing him now, I realized that perhaps he had simply accepted his fate in a way I never could. I understand how strange it is to be here coupled with how I am dressed. Since I came here, if there is something I have learned, it is that domestic duties are exclusive duties of the Omegas while the royals do nothing all day but walk around in their expensive wear, drink teas with friends, and whatever that keeps them alive. The one of protecting the pack that I had done since before any other tiger ever had? The duty to be royalty which I overperform, reading petitions and trying to solve all problems?
