She didn’t trust her voice, not yet. Silas paced. One hand raked through his hair, the other flexed at his side, restless, too full of things he couldn’t hurl into the room. He hadn’t spoken a word since they left the hall. Not one. “You’re going to rip us apart with your silence,” she finally muttered. He turned. Slowly. His gaze caught hers like a snare. And when he spoke, his voice was low, almost a growl: “Better silence than words I can’t take back.”

In a different room. A different life. A speaker made a crackling noise. Static filled the silence. Then a voice. Calm. Deep. One she knew. “You took your time.” Seraphina made a small, broken sound. Silas looked at them. “Who is that?” Neither sister answered. They stared at the screen like kids who opened a door they were told never to touch. The voice kept going. Gentle. Almost like he was smiling. “I was starting to think you wouldn’t come back here on your own.”

She whispered, “It’s so quiet.” The silence seemed to draw closer, as if it were listening. Vincent growled in frustration. “I don’t like this.” His chest rose and fell rapidly against hers. “It’s too quiet,” he whispered. From somewhere ahead, a voice whispered back—her own voice again. “Shh. Don’t break it. This silence is safe. Don’t you trust it?” Camela froze, her heart racing in her chest. “Vincent…she’s here,” she said.

Nothing came out. No sound. No voice. Just silence. His head tilted slightly, and I could feel his eyes on me through the mask. "Go ahead," he said softly. "Scream." I tried again. Tried to force sound from my throat. Nothing. "No?" His voice carried a dark edge of amusement. "Nothing at all?" Tears burned in my eyes. He leaned forward, placing both hands on the bed on either side of my legs. Caging me. "So quiet," he murmured. "So helpless."

And then—far below, at the edge of sight— A shape emerged. Tall. Still. Watching. No face. No features. Just presence. Riven swore under his breath. “That’s not scouting. That’s a challenge.” Killian stepped forward, fury radiating from him. “Show yourself!” The figure didn’t move. Instead, the air vibrated. A voice—low, layered, not carried by sound but by intent—rose from the valley and wrapped around them all. “Daughter of silence.” Aria’s breath left her lungs.

They giggled and whispered. Silas walked up onto the stage and stood in front of all of them with his hands placed on his hips. He cleared his throat. All of them immediately stopped talking and all eyes were on him. Power radiated off of him and his voice was loud and clear as he spoke out to them, "We have a visitor."
