Even though I am nothing but a nerdy youngster excited over what would mark her sixteenth year on earth, my parents are fully aware I won’t be taking any less of a birthday celebration. The universe must have conspired against me, because everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.

He kicked her away, shouting angrily, “Get out of here! I never want to see you again! A woman like you doesn’t deserve forgiveness!” Sydney slumped to the ground, drained of all strength. Her eyes were empty as she stared ahead, muttering to herself, “How could this happen to me…”

I am really curious as to what's in it but I'm not gonna give her the satisfaction of watching whatever she has planned actually happen to me. The first might have been a decoy to actually make me feel safe and sound till, boom, I open the other and white itching powder rains on me or something that's gonna make my face break into humongous zits that'll never leave me forever. Okay, maybe I'm over-imagining things and none of those things could happen but she's also Natasha Banks, a cruel, popular, good-looking bitch! And yes, I know I just complimented her in this supposed-to-be-rant!

I turn on the torch and flip the book to where I stop, which is page eighty-nine, and I continue from where I stop. Why do bad things happen to good people? I ask myself, as I flip open the next page, which is now page 124. The book gets dreadful and as much as I hate suspense; I have to read my way through and I am almost out of the woods with the suspense when I hear a knock on my door.

No one was surprised about this, if more than half of the class including the teacher hated this book then the possibility of the world hating the book was high.

Was it only me or the time slowed down? I went through my bag again to check whether I had something else I could do to pass the time. I smiled when I saw the book Shelly gifted me on my birthday, Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I opened it from where I had stopped reading last night and continued reading when the book was snatched from my hands. I bit my lip to stop myself from shouting at Jake when he smirked at me while pointed at Mr. Jameson who chose that exact moment to glance up at us.
