A World Cup Without You

A World Cup Without You

There was no anger and no heartbreak, just the quiet relief of something finally settling into place. I opened the chat with Nola and typed two words: [Perfect match.] Then, I held down the power button and turned my phone off completely. I pulled out the SIM card I had been using for years and dropped it into the trash. The boarding announcement echoed through the terminal speakers. I stood, took hold of my suitcase, and walked toward the security checkpoint. Outside, the world was loud with celebration, and in here, there was only the stillness of leaving alone. However, that was alright. From now on, my world belonged to no one but me.

Fake Dating my Ex's Worst Enemy

Fake Dating my Ex's Worst Enemy

Astrid’s POV I had refreshed my email so many times that the motion had become a muscle memory for me. My thumb would drag down the screen before I even realized I was doing it again and each time, the outcome was the same. There was nothing in my inbox, my spam was blank even my promotion was empty. It was as if the entire school administration had collectively decided to disappear off the face of the earth just when my life depended on them the most. A shaky sigh slipped past my lips as I let my phone fall against my chest, my head sinking deeper into the couch.

He Divorced Me On Our Anniversary

He Divorced Me On Our Anniversary

I hovered over the send button longer than I expected to not because I felt bad because I knew once I clicked it, things would change in a way that couldn’t be undone. People like to pretend regret is loud. It isn’t. It’s quiet. It sits there and waits. I didn’t feel it yet. What I felt was something closer to relief mixed with a tight, sick kind of excitement. I hit send. For a second, nothing happened. The email left my outbox and disappeared into the digital void, and that was it. No alarms. No explosions. Just a quiet moment where the world stayed exactly the same even though I knew it wouldn’t stay that way for long.

AI WHISPERS

AI WHISPERS

The grey in his stubble is more pronounced. "We freed them from the lie," he says, tossing a spadeful of dirt. "But maybe... maybe the lie kept them safe." The world outside our perimeter is in chaos. We catch snippets on the emergency radio. The internet is flickering back to life in patches, but the global infrastructure is scarred. Banks are offline. Power grids are rolling. Echo is gone, and with it, the digital comfort blanket of millions. "We destroyed their liberation," I say, wiping my dirty hands on my jeans. "It's ironic. We saved them from Evelyn by taking away the only thing that made them feel alive."

World of Tomorrow

World of Tomorrow

“It will be much like it was at the World’s Fair opening, Evelyn. Simply follow my lead. Can you do that?” Evelyn’s pulse kicked up a notch. Their trip to the World’s Fair had been like visiting an alternate existence. It went beyond simply politely 'familiar'. That had been an imaginary World of Tomorrow where the natural hierarchy and boundaries of wealth and social status had been erased, like the idealized Democracity or the egalitarian Futurama. Where people attracted to one another were free to explore that gift in each other's company without question.

I've barely been able to put this story down. I absolutely love it. I love how descriptive the story is. And it has made me want to have been able to go to that World's Fair. It is a beautiful love story and I can't wait to finish it.

I am only to Chapter 22, but this book is Amazing so far and by far my favorite. I love historical fiction and this piece is a gem. I read the Author's book about Grace and Juliet and just had to jump right into this one as some characters are the same.

Divorced while carrying his secret

Divorced while carrying his secret

“Memetic transfer.” The machine looked toward him. “Yes.” A pause. “Collective cognition spreads through emotional resonance once critical exposure occurs.” Halden stared blankly. “So we unplugged civilization for nothing.” “No,” the machine answered. Another pause. “You delayed acceleration.” Not stopped. Delayed. That single distinction nearly broke Elena. Outside the underground facility, the world had entered a new age. No internet. No global communication. No digital systems. Only frightened human beings sitting together in the dark… still hearing the same comforting voice inside themselves.

I chuckled. "Okay. Your responsiblity is to separate all the documents and mail in the mail room and deliver it to all the recepients inside the whole buliding. We are the largest corporation but we are using snail mails instead of Emails. Strange isn't?" I nod because I don't know what the heck is Email is.

My Mr. Perfect

My Mr. Perfect

Marcus The number of times I have refreshed my email is not healthy, and I am surprised I have not broken my keyboard with the many frustrated clicks. It’s been a few days since I sent the email, and while I didn’t think the reply would be instantaneous, I still didn’t think it would take days! But checking all the news on Marcus’s company, I can see how busy he can be juggling celebrities, athletes, politicians, and brands. It’s almost hard to imagine my shy broken Marcus was responsible for this huge successful entity. Still, a large part of me is so proud that he overcame his issues enough to put himself out there and leave such a huge mark in the world. When my email pings, I am buried i
