“His real name is Austin Jones of the Black Onyx pack.” Alana’s words send a ripple of confusion through everyone’s mind. “Black Onyx Pack?” Alpha Azraiel questions with a raised eyebrow. “I- I know it sounds unbelievable but it is true! He really is from the Black Onyx Pack.” For a moment, no one speaks. Theo and Alpha Azraiel look at each other with a knowing look in their eyes. They have most probably mindlinked their suspicions about the witch in front of them.

What did I do? “We should go to the mall after school,” Alex says all of a sudden. To anyone else, it’d just be a moment of spontaneity, but I know better. Alex is the kind of person that prefers actions over words. Whenever I’m feeling down in the dumps, he’ll drag me along to some activity until he sees me smile. “I would, but I promised Alyssa I’d watch the cheerleaders routine. They want an outside perspective,” Lana says. Rob nods along, then nudges me. From the way Mateo jumps and glares at him, I assume Rob had kicked his shin. “Hello? Earth to space cadets?”

I looked up to see Garren had already shifted. “If you say so,” I said back in my head. He let out a low laugh. “You will have to ride Falkoor. He will be able to blend into the sky better than Rio and me. He has vowed to protect you. He will bring you no harm.” He nodded for me to head towards Hunter. I took a deep breath before cautiously walking over to him. Falkoor shifted his wings so I could get on. His skin felt cold to the touch. He shuddered under my touch.

"Secondly, as you may have heard we lost Allison Wade, a much loved pack member, to this war, we are hoping to retrieve her body and give her the send off she deserves, that being said, if anyone has any information they think may be relevant, please come to my office immediately after we conclude tonight's meeting." She nods towards Darius and he escorts the potential Alpha's from the stage, the entire crowd, which had been muttering after her previous announcements falls silent, watching Flame as she once again, faces the crowd. "Our final bit of business this evening is to reinstate Cain Harding in his rightful place as co-Alpha." She smiles at me, offering her hand out for me to join her

I groan internally. My name is Mariah Cruz. I'm 17 years old and starting my junior year today. My Father, Mark Cruz, is the current Beta of our pack, The Royal Moon Pack, and my mother, Jennifer Diaz, is the Beta female. My Brother Josh Cruz is 18 years old and a senior in High School. He is training to become the next Beta when our Alpha, Jason Adams, decides to retire and hand the title to his eldest son, Nick Adams. Nick is 18 and is also a senior in high school. He is also my brother's best friend.

I growled, but he swiftly swatted my hand away. “Oh, for fuck sake! come on, Hawthorne. Spare me the drama. I’ve done more than enough for you. You never even liked Aurora from the beginning, so why this sudden obsession? I get that she’s carrying your child, but can you maybe tone down the intensity?” he fired back, his tone defiant. I arched an eyebrow in response, unsure if he was becoming overly confident or simply acting recklessly.

He releases his grip on my mouth and forcefully spins me around to face him. This man is nothing like Thomas. His eyes are a deep shade of brown, and a scar runs across one of his eyebrows. His hand is grimy and covered in black grime, slicked back by natural grease, and I can detect the lingering smell of smoke on his breath. I glance over his shoulder and spot Dale standing there, offering me a smile accompanied by a gentle wave of his finger.

Another photo of him holding one of his children in his arms, his woman at his side… Nathan Lockwood and wife spotted at charity gala… and with them attended their little twins… Arina and Jacob, seen for the first time since birth at two years old. My stomach turned. There he was. In a tailored suit. Smiling for the cameras like he didn’t have blood on his hands or a past that meant anything. Like I didn’t exist. A mate that he chose to simply ignore and rather than reject, he couldn’t care less. Like she didn’t exist.
