"When the tank was down half way and I figured that there was no way I'd be able to get back to civilization if I kept going like I was I stopped the car, turned off the lights and started crying. I stood there terrified in the dark for I don't even know how long. "At some point the moon came out from behind the clouds and I spotted this old abandoned looking farm house way back off the dirt road. Scared out of mind I started walking toward it. When I got closer I saw that the roof was caving in and the doors and windows were kinda missing. That's when it occurred to me that I could hide the evidence. I could come back for it if I could find my way back to it.

he says. "She won't," I say. "She moved forty miles from anything connected to Marre's network and stopped hiding her address eight years ago. Jake’s POV I’d never driven this far alone,two hours to Grandma’s farm through winding country roads that barely counted as roads anymore. Maya had given me explicit instructions: “Find the old barn foundation. Northwest corner. Stone cellar. Hidden compartment Dad built.” Simple. Except nothing involving my father’s secret evidence had ever been simple. The farm looked different than I remembered. Grandma had died three years ago, and the property sat abandoned. "We have a hole in the ground that happens to have a house on top of it." The convoy slows. We turn off the paved road onto a gravel track. The tires crunch loudly, spitting stones. The headlights cut through a dense fog that clings to the pine trees like ghostly shrouds. We drive for another ten minutes in silence. The isolation is absolute. No streetlights. No houses. Just the mountains and the dark. Then, the structure looms out of the mist. It is a ruin. A two-story farmhouse built of rough-hewn stone, its roof sagging dangerously in the middle. The shutters are hanging off their hinges. Vines choke the walls, climbing up to broken windows that look like missing teeth.

With some solid, deep breaths, Ru closed her eyes and tried to picture the church she’d seen in the pictures Lyric had shown her. Opening her eyes, she looked up to see she was standing outside of a large structure, and even in the dark, there was enough light from a thousand stars to tell her the place was abandoned. It appeared to be almost three stories high, with plenty of windows in arched dormers above the superstructure of what clearly appeared to be an abandoned church.
