Wyatt said calmly, he was trying to hide the emotion in his voice as he ordered the other wolves to go. “Kayla…her name was Kayla.” Abby spoke up. Wyatt hadn't even got a chance to look at any of the other girls. There was something in her voice, his head snapped to her. “What's your name?” He asked, feeling his heart rate increase as he looked her over. “Abby.” She said softly, the way she said her name, the way her voice spoke, sent shivers through him. “Look at me.” Wyatt said becoming annoyed that she hadn't yet.

All eyes turned to the woman who had just stepped out onto the back deck. Heather. She wore white jeans, a white jacket, and a bright yellow top, with not a hint of Abby’s signature pink anywhere on her. He watched as Abby lifted her head, a hopeful look on her face, and then the sadness he saw as she realized her mother hadn’t done the one thing she’d asked. In a sea of every shade of pink imaginable, Heather stood out like a sore thumb which was probably her intention. Heather hated it when anyone else was in the spotlight, even if that other person was her daughter.

The girls withdrew to chairs nearby, still engrossed in the tablet app and chattering to each other. Rising, Jim extended his hand. “Patrick. Abby. Good to see you.” He offered the unoccupied chairs near Teri as seats. “Teri, these are my neighbors, the Allreds. Patrick is a deputy chief for the sheriff and Abby runs the local co-op. The little girl with Zoe is their daughter.”
