THE SENATOR'S PET
She turned and walked towards the entrance of the apartment complex, leaving Levi standing alone on the sidewalk, watching her go.
She entered the lobby, a small, sparsely furnished space with a linoleum floor and a faded floral couch. The air smelled faintly of bleach and stale coffee. She walked to the front desk, a small window behind which sat a woman with tired eyes and a nametag that read “Brenda.”
"I'm Brianna Wilson," she said, sliding her ID across the counter. "I'm here to pick up my keys for apartment 204."
Brenda glanced at the ID, then rummaged through a drawer, pulling out a set of keys attached to a large, plastic fob. She handed them to Brianna, her expression neutral.
