The game did start harmlessly—small motions, almost dance-like circling in the center of the ring, changing directions, dodging, half-steps. Aria was quick, Kai patient: he didn’t try to overpower her but followed, letting her rhythm lead. Sometimes he feinted forward, and Aria slipped aside with a laugh.
“This is the ‘not serious’ version, right?” she asked between laughs, backing away.
“This is,” Kai nodded. “But if you step back like that again, there’s nowhere left to go at the edge of the ring.”
