The screen flickered to life, crisp and vibrant, showcasing the latest operating system.
It was… perfect. Too perfect.

I couldn’t focus on the interface though. My thoughts kept pulling back to the message. The silence. The part of me that hoped he would say something back, acknowledge the gift, maybe even apologize for whatever he'd done to warrant it.
So I did the only thing I could think of. Something impulsive and, frankly, a little ridiculous.
I opened the camera app on my phone, turned the MacBook toward the camera, and smiled—wide, soft, real. A little crooked. A little shy. But real. It was the kind of smile I usually reserved for close friends and old photographs.
