Aria slipped a few strands of her long hair behind her ear and looked up at him, “Does that mean he wont be my bodyguard anymore?” she asked with a small smile, as she put down her mug of hot chocolate. Adrian picked her up from the couch and made her sit on his legs sideways, “No, he will still be your bodyguard, you can’t get rid of him that easily” he said with a small smirk as he pulled her closer to him by the waist and kissed her on the side of her neck softly, thinking she smelt refreshing.

“Adrian… you don’t have to be cold.” Adrian paused, then chuckled lightly, though the sound didn’t reach his eyes. “I’m just joking,” he said smoothly. “Ava, don’t take it to heart.” Ava forced a small, polite smile, though her gut churned. “But just to clarify,” Adrian continued, opening the car door with a faint smile, “those bodyguards are mine, not her husband’s.” He glanced at Cassie as he emphasized, “Her husband.” Cassie frowned slightly. “Yours? Why would you—”

Now I have a bodyguard behind me. Trent's head swiveled in the direction I'd indicated, and Aden was there. Trent crept a little nearer until his shoulder bumped against mine. His tone grew harsher now and verged on snarly. "That's the one?" he demanded. "Yes," I replied in a rush. "Alpha Duiane brought him to guard me. His name's Aden." Trent's expression hardened as he looked at him for what was an endless stretch of time. "There's something not right about him."

Her brows lifted the moment she saw me then shot up even higher when she spotted the gunman beside me. “Oh, hell no,” she muttered. I pushed past her, and went inside, “Don’t ask.” “You showed up with a freaking bodyguard, Maddie. What, you gonna have him shoot us?” Nina snapped. “No, of course not,” I said as I turned to look at her. “He’s Adriano’s. He follows me everywhere.” Her eyes narrowed. She shut the door, locked it, then pulled the deadbolt. We both stood there in her too-small kitchen, her walls thin enough to hear a baby crying in the unit next door.

Adrien said, using his fingers to massage his forehead, probably to alleviate stress. Smith had already called two bodyguards over, whipped Adler up, and carried him out of Adrien's office. “So, which partnership was he talking about?” I asked as I stood up from my seat and walked towards where Adrien sat. I wanted to help him alleviate his stress by giving him a head massage, but before my fingers could touch his head, he blocked it. “Why are you so concerned about your ex-husband's business?” He asked with a chilly voice; it has been quite a while since Adrien used such a tone on me.

“No,” I admit. “I’m just waiting for the time he tells me to put you on the phone. He’s going to test me, and he’s going to test you, too.” He sighs again, looking away from me, toward the window. “Do you have any idea the kind of man he is? I mean, really?” “He’s rich, and he has a lot of bodyguards and stuff like that.” “Yeah. He needs bodyguards. Do you think…” He closes his eyes for a second before opening them again. “Do you think he does that because he’s paranoid or because there’s a reason for it?”

"For what I'm about to tell you." "Adrian, you're scaring me—" "Good." He moved closer. "You should be scared. Because I'm about to make something very clear." "I don't understand—" "Your bodyguard." His voice was flat. "Your mate. He's currently in the dungeons. And he's not having a pleasant time." My blood ran cold. "What?" "I had some of my men pay him a visit before he could leave. Teach him a lesson about touching things that don't belong to him."

Two men in dark suits appeared almost instantly. “Escort him out,” Adrian said without looking away. “Make sure he doesn’t come back.” “Sir…..” the man started, but one sharp glance shut him up. He was grabbed by the arms and dragged toward the exit, his protests echoing through the vast space. I only get pity for the man. Rumours of how cruel his bodyguards were speard beyond the city to anyone who listened to his stories. Adrian didn’t move until the sound faded. Then he turned to me.

Warm blood splattered across the side of my face, carrying that sharp, unsettling smell of iron. He'd been shot. But he didn't make a sound, and the arm around me didn't so much as tremble. At the same time, by the faint moonlight coming through the windows, I caught sight of Julian nearby out of the corner of my eye. The instant the shots rang out, this man, who'd once sworn to protect me with his life, the Ward family's former head bodyguard, had thrown himself, on pure instinct, straight toward Amber. He'd pinned her body beneath his, and even after a stray round grazed his arm, slowing him down further, he never once let go of her.

"Figures." Downstairs in the grand marble foyer, a man stood waiting. He looked to be in his early thirties, standing at an imposing six-foot-three with an athletic, powerful build. He had dark skin and sharp brown eyes that constantly, systematically scanned the perimeter of the room. Unlike the heavily armed, suited guards stationed outside, he wore simple black trousers and a tailored, casual shirt. He looked less like a conspicuous bodyguard and more like someone who could effortlessly blend into any high-end crowd. The moment Lorrie reached the bottom of the stairs, he gave a respectful nod. "Mrs. Dimitri. I'm Adrian. My job is to keep you alive."
