The tension in the room extinguished, they returned to painting in a companionable silence for a long while each lost in their own thoughts of the other. The next thing I knew, something collided with me in the darkness, causing me to shift. “Oh God, I’m so sorry!” a terrified voice cried out in the darkness as a hand brushed against my body. “I’m okay,” I reassured frantically, my heart racing at the thought of what might have happened if we hadn’t collided with each other. “It’s just dark in here.” After regaining our bearings for several moments and reassuring each other that we were all right, we shifted back into our wolves and made our way forward again—only this time, more carefully than before. I could hear the commotion of the crowd as they realized they had not only survived, but miraculously moved out of the way in time to avoid any injuries. A smile ghosted across my face because not only had Ghost succeeded, but so had I. Ghost cursed under his breath and stumbled, coming to a halt several feet away from the rubble of the collapsed parking garage. The two of us hit the ground and rolled, panting and exhausted.
