Once again, Adaline shook her head. Adaline tried to stand up, but her knees felt too weak. Without being asked, Altezza helped her. The man carried her back into the room and sat her down on the bed. "My bag," Adaline requested, pointing towards where she kept her bag. Altezza frowned, but he did as Adaline asked. Adaline handed him a small blue-covered book. Altezza's forehead furrowed even more. "What's this?" he asked, confused. Without waiting for an answer, he slowly opened the book. A black and white photo and the doctor's writing greeted his eyes. "This...?" Altezza stared at the book, then at his wife in turns.

The gray-coated man followed quietly. "It wasn't hidden." "It simply hadn't chosen anyone." The White Book floated beside Adrian. Its blank pages suddenly filled with names. Not stories. Authors. Some were familiar. Most had never existed in any history Adrian remembered. Then... every name slowly faded away. Only one remained. Adrian. Before anyone could speak... a small figure appeared between the endless shelves. A little girl. No older than eight. She carried a worn notebook against her chest. Unlike everyone else... she looked completely ordinary.

Adaline paused for a second, then smiled lightly. "Alright." She turned and made her way upstairs. Her room felt quieter now, slower. She sat on the bed for a moment, looking around, unsure of what to do with herself. She wasn't used to being idle, to having nothing to focus on. It felt strange. After a moment, she stood up again. Her steps were quieter this time as she made her way out of her room and down the hallway. She stopped in front of Ronan's study. Just for a second. Then she opened the door. The room was neat, organized, everything in its place. She stepped inside carefully, her gaze moving across the shelves until it landed on a novel.

She was screwed, that's for sure. After Odette left, Adeline looked around the bedroom. It was large and had a lot of things to entertain herself with. There was an Amazon Kindle sitting next to a huge flat-screen TV hidden behind some drapes. Adeline turned on the TV and saw it had all the streaming services. She looked through the Kindle, and it was loaded with thousands of books. There were several bookshelves loaded with books too, but they looked untouched, like no one had ever read them. What a beautiful prison, perfect for a princess in a tower! Adeline was amazed. Was that what Damien imagined she was? No, she was his bought-and-paid-for whore in a tower and she'd do well to remember

he muttered. “Your book fell. I put it back on the shelf. Go get it and stop bothering me,” he said, closing his eyes. Adeline’s cheeks burned with embarrassment. She fetched her book, sat on the bed, leaned back, and resumed reading. Her eyes grew heavier and heavier. She finally set the book on the bedside table, pulled up the blanket, and closed her eyes. ***

“Okay, if you don't want to talk about what you experienced, that's fine. You still need time to calm yourself down. Get some rest, beautiful woman. I asked the young girl, and was met with a pair of intelligent sapphire eyes. Adelina looked like a normal six-year-old, wavy platinum hair that reached just below her shoulders, and a round face with delicately pointed ears. It was her eyes that seemed much older, much too smart for a little girl. Her eyes seemed to drift for a moment, no longer focused on me. She blinked a second later and gave me a wide smile. “Could we speak in private?” Adelina asked me, glancing towards an arched door on the other side of the room. “I’d rather not speak around Tamara and Aralia, if I can help it.”

“Go straight. It’s a glass door.” I follow her instructions and find myself in a large, rectangular room. The place has a musty smell to it. I look around, overwhelmed. How am I supposed to find anything in this place. The books reach the ceiling. I see an old-fashioned computer sitting just next to the door, and I make my way over there. It’s already open to the search engine, and I type in “Blood Moon Hybrid.” The system is old and slow, and it takes a couple of minutes for the book titles to begin showing up.

Although her people only got more worried. Idaliah's cry surfaced above the rest, and she couldn't even bear to look up from her crying position. This was helpless. This was helpless.
