I froze at the door, my pulse hammering. Rita. My children. Ashton. And none of them even realized how out of place this was. Ashton glanced up then, and his eyes caught mine. For a second, his expression was unreadable, caught between different emotions, like amusement, caution, and something softer. He looked back down at Kate’s drawing. It was crude, childlike, full of mismatched colors. But clear enough: five little figures, hand-in-hand. A woman with long hair. A tall man with broad shoulders.

Finding a suitable angle, she sat down and started sketching the characters. Toph stood behind her, watching intently. Arya had a deep foundation in drawing, so she had managed to outline the basic features quickly. With some refinement, the two characters greeted them back on paper. At a glance, it was also obvious she had drawn them based on Chris and Lena! Zuko and Lina praised her, but Toph pointed out a few places with a frown. Arya had tried modifying those spots several times, but she could not get them right no matter what.

I picked up the next drawing, and paused. It was a messy picture of a woman wearing glasses. I blinked, then raised an eyebrow, pointing to myself. “Is… is that me?” Hannah nodded quickly, her fingers twisting together. “Y-yes,” she said nervously. “Is it good?” A soft laugh escaped me before I could stop it. I pulled her into a hug, holding her tightly. “Yes. It’s perfect.” She smiled, clearly relieved, her body relaxing against mine. I continued flipping through the drawings, my smile still lingering, until I reached the last one. My hands stilled as I looked at the drawing of four people.

He whines and I laugh at him. I raffles his hair and hold his face in my palms. “So… how is handsome Denzel doing today?” “I’m fine! Here….” He reaches for a drawing book next to him on the bed and shows me a page where drew…. Ah! I don’t even know what he drew! "I will help." Kai nods with the satisfaction of someone whose project planning has received the necessary resource confirmation. Then he picks up the drawing book from the chair and he opens it to a fresh page and he begins to draw, right there in the treatment room, with the focused economy of someone who has something to get down before the image leaves. I look over his shoulder. He is drawing three figures: a small one, a tall one, and a third one whose silver hair he renders in careful crosshatched lines, standing in the western quarter with the tree and the lifted pavement stone visible at the edge of the frame.

“It’s been calm today. Her father hasn’t come out of his room except for dinner. Ahsoka has been drawing on that easel since she cleaned up dinner.” I focus on what it is she is drawing and I realize it’s Ace. I can’t help but smile that she is thinking about us right now. Her drawing is quite impressive. I see her shiver as she turns around to close her window. She stops for a second and I am sure she is staring right at us. She doesn’t move, trying to focus but she ends up shivering again and closes the window.

A scrapping of a chair breaks the deteriorating conversation across the dinner table, Athan moving his chair back and heading out to the hallway. “Athan what are you doing?” His mother calls out after him, her eyes flickering between Calian and me. “I’m…here…I made this earlier on.” He enters back into the room holding a folded piece of paper in his hands. Surprisingly, he doesn’t hand it to his father, or even his mother…but moves towards me, placing it out in front of me. “I drew this.” He looks up at me expectantly, waiting for me to take it from him. I do, unfolding the paper to reveal a drawing of a female dressed in a black jumpsuit, a black cape…long lilac purple hair and glowing eyes
