Jai tilted his head with an apologetic smile. “Ah! Sorry!” Ruta scratched his head nervously. “I forgot you’re not from here. Of course you don’t know them,” the boy smiled at him and counted with his finger. “Akaito Fujii. A prodigy from the Fujii clan. He has pale red hair and pretty, dark purple eyes. People like Akaito onii-chan a lot because he is very talented and creative, both in a fight or his achievement in the singing industry.” Jai listened intently to the boy.

Ellie hissed. His mind accepted her words, pain gripped him, but he wasn’t stunned by it. He’d known everyone who worked inside the testing facility considered them nothing more than breathing flesh to abuse. Why he’d thought she’d be any different had been a mistake on his part. Stupid and unforgivable. Fury gripped him and his finger twitched. He moved his mouth, a silent snarl trapped inside his throat, and promised he’d get even with the woman for fooling him into believing she was different.

𝙰𝚌𝚎 𝙰𝚕𝚊𝚜𝚝𝚊𝚛 7 years old. The brown-haired boy stood there looking at the woman helping her kids choose the toys they wanted. Ace didn't get help from her, he's shy, anxious that she's going to return the ten dollars teddy bear that he brought. His soft small hand clenched the ear of the brown teddy bear, he pouted and with a shaking body, he approached his mother.

Focus. “Fucking hell.” I can hear him spit the words out. Feel him gather my hair at the back of my head. And he’s stiffening somehow more in my mouth. I quite like this thing. I never thought I’d say it. At least, I never thought I’d live to.

I watch his back tense, and it’s only then I notice how lean the man is. “Beta Cal, Ma’am” He says without turning to look at me. I glance at Clay who is also frowning. This man is the Beta, he is barely above skin and bones, and his nervousness is off the scale. For a Beta he seems far too weak and has no presence at all.

I reached home, numb. Threw my scarf on the bed. Tired eyes. Frayed voice. Shaking hands. But I didn't cry. Then. My phone buzzed again. Unknown Number: "Did you get home safe?" I didn't answer. I couldn't. My mind then grasped on it. It was Jade. My heart felt heavy. Did he really care about me. Just that he acts cold and cool because of people. Maybe he doesn't want people to know his soft side.

he said the words as easily as he thought the action would be except, doing this wouldn't be easy. Ace was far more intelligent than anyone pegged him for. I guess, in his line of work, we should have expected some level of intelligence from him. He didn't speak about what he did openly, not unless Ace was in a place that he felt safe in. I didn't want to call Ace paranoid but... the man never stopped looking at people as if they were out to get him. When I tried speaking to him over coffee he pretended as if he didn't know what I was talking about. How was I supposed to get him to confess to killing someone or planning a hit on someone?

"Yeah, right! Ace isn’t stupid. He’ll never believe you." But the second man’s smirk didn’t falter. "Ah, but that’s where you’re wrong, my friend. Ace doesn’t know who I am. He’s never seen me before. And if I show him the right pictures… the ones that prove Richard is still plotting against him… he’ll have no choice but to trust me."
