POV EMMA BELLE The Vesper groaned as it hovered over the precipice of the Well. Below us, a column of white-violet energy roared upward, a fountain of unrefined Aether that served as the planet's nervous system. Aethelred stood on a platform of translucent glass that floated within the gale of light. His scythe was not made of metal; it was carved from a single shard of Aether-Glass, vibrating with a frequency that threatened to turn our ship into a cloud of atoms.

The morning sky over Aetherborn shimmered like spilled ink, streaked with pale light from the twin moons. A soft breeze carried laughter, bells, and the scent of floating pastries from the Aethergrounds far below. High above it all, a steady and slow cloud glided through the air. Caleb stood at its helm, his boots planted firmly on the mist, his hands glowing faintly as he guided the flow. Beside him, Seraphine clutched a large, glowing box, its surface pulsing faintly with enchantments meant to keep everything fresh and warm.

I bit my lip when he got up from the couch to take off his clothes desperately, and I took advantage of ogling it at every garment he took off, knowing what would come when he was completely naked. “What the hell...?” My eyes widened at the sight of a tattoo on his chest. It wasn't just any tattoo, of course. On his left chest there was an A written in cursive letter and inside the letter I could see a landscape. The air smelled like a mix of metal and herbs. “Sit here,” Niobe said, fetching several jars from the rack. She opened one filled with grey gemstones that shimmered faintly. “This is moondusk—represents your wolf side.” Then she poured golden liquid from a tall bottle into a small bowl. “Echo Liquor. It’ll mix with your blood.” Finally, she lifted a jar of glittering brown dust. “And this... is aether dust. A rare substance that can copy the structure of your body’s energy.”

Alpha Lyra’s lips tipped up smugly, “When Valeria sent the word that you’d gotten Lilac’s location, I set to work. I have a family in my pack that has an unusual sort of ability. It’s similar to echo location, only they don’t need sound to map a place out. All they have to do is get close enough and they can sense the entire layout of an area. It took a few hours, but we managed to get most of the building without alerting the guards patrolling the place.” It was hard not to be a bit star struck.
