“Mom, maybe……..” “Shut up, Luna,” Serena snaps. Leo starts crying harder. “Mommy!” I crawl forward. “I’m here, baby. Mommy’s here.” Serena watches me like a cat with a mouse, I reach the table. The pen feels heavy in my hand , I pick it up. Julian’s voice is whisper soft behind me. “Trust me.” I meet his eyes. He nods once. I hover the pen over the line. Serena leans down, kisses Leo’s head. “Good girl.”

“So, anything for you to drink, Xander? Nay is already on her second green juice.” “Nay?” Alexander asked, the word feeling foreign to his ears. Not that he missed out on the nickname. He did not like it. Inaya might be a pain in the ass, but that name was divine. And he would not have it any other way. “Nay.” Penelope pointed at her boss. “My boss.” He nodded and said, “I will have a coffee. Two shots, no sugar.” Penelope noted and scooted out of the place after excusing herself.

I manage to keep my tone professional, yielding nothing of what I actually feel. Which is rage. Alex texted me last night about Penny's plan to call off his charges, and I fought the urge to go down to that hospital and shake her loose till some senses fell into the damn girl's lap.
