BEAUTY AND THE BEAST *** “... when a woman decides to be wicked, even the devil takes lessons... ”Ella *** Denisha' * I parked my car and stepped down with my things. i strode into the house to see my husband and child lying down on the couch, watching a movie with a packet of pizza and ice cream. They didn't notice my presence as they were so engrossed in whatever they were watching. I cleared my throat and that's when I had an audience.

The movies that inspired mostly the beginning chapters (not the whole book), is A Cinderella Story (the one with Selena Gomez and the one with Lizzie McGuire), Once Upon a Song, and After the Ball. So obviously the love interest has to have some talent in music. The main character and love interest will also want similar things in their futures after high school, but that does not mean every single detail is from a movie... There's no point in complaining about how it's unoriginal because I followed the basic Cinderella plot line. I personally love Cinderella stories, even if they're total cliches. If you don't, go read something else.

I asked them as they both were struggling to stay quiet. “Yes”, they said at same time than looked at each other and burst out laughing again. I huffed and looked away. “Oh come on ava, you can’t deny, it was hil…” just as cora was saying something, fleur pushed her. Serves her right. “Okay! Let’s watch the new Cinderella movie, I’ve heard Camila Cabello has done a great job. It’s her first movie,” fleur suggested. “I don’t get it why we need another Cinderella movie. I mean there are so many Cinderella movies already and now this one, I think I’ll pass. Maybe next time,” cora said while plopping beside us.

“Where is Lady Daciana today? She hasn’t been coming down to train.” A smile makes its way to my face at the mention of Daciana. We stayed up late last night watching princess movies. She didn’t believe me when I told her I have never seen any in my life and that is how we had a movie night. She fell asleep halfway through the second movie, Cinderella, is the name I think. She told me I’m as pretty as her and I blushed so hard, it’s a surprise I didn’t catch on fire. “She is fine, she is still in bed.” Zara makes a knowing sound and I chuckle. Everyone apparently knows how serious she takes her beauty sleep. She tried to move our training to noon but Zara has other duties. She tries to come

Lisa asked, “Um… Is it possible for girls from ordinary families to marry into your social class?” It was not just Lisa. Annabelle and Millie looked at Paige for an answer too. Although Paige was confused by the question, she gave an honest answer. “No.” Lisa, Annabelle, and Mille went silent. They were upset. “Really? None?” Lisa relentlessly asked. “Yeah.” Paige gave a nod. “The Cinderella story is a common theme in TV shows, though.” Millie was persistent on the matter. Paige shook her head. “It only happens on TV shows, not real life.”

She wouldn’t give him words of love. “After the weekend, we are flying to Cristonia, because it’s a formality, but my father has to approve our union. But he will love you.” Nick reassured her. I only wish you did, Ella said silently in her head. Nick grinned. “I have something for you. About the fairytales we talked about earlier. Cinderella in the book lost a shoe at the ball. I don’t have a shoe for you to try on. But what….” Nick pulled something from his pocket. “…what about seeing if these fit?” Nick held up her lace underwear from the night of the ball.

Lady Diana asked, staring at me with her artificial lashes, which almost touched the roof of her eyelids. “The only way you can escape marrying Klaus Raymond is if I disown you, and you really don't want me to do that.” My mouth fell open in a gasp when my dad threatened to disown me if I refused to do his bidding. “Mark, calm down, I'll talk to her. What's wrong with you, Roxanna? The least you can do is agree to this marriage after everything that we have done for you.”

How was it possible that one man looked as handsome as ten handsome men? How could something like that ever be fair? How was it fair that such man happened to fall in love with a woman like her? Her happy ending was happier than any happy endings ever recorded in history. Cinderella? Snow white? Rapunzel? Aurora? Tiana? Of all of the princesses in the world of fairytale, she was the one with the happiest ending ever. Sure she was not a princess neither was she getting married to a prince, but Romeo was ten times better than a prince. Better than a king.

I opened a notebook and wrote: Do not react immediately. Reaction gives power away. I leaned back in my chair and stared at the ceiling. Back in the orphanage, reacting had been survival. If you didn’t speak up fast, you lost your chance. Your food. Your bed. Your moment. Here, it was the opposite. I spent the afternoon watching old films. Not the flashy ones. The quiet ones. Stories about houses like this. Big estates. Cold rooms. Families where love was measured in rules. In one movie, a young woman married into a powerful family. She didn’t fight them. She didn’t beg.
