Rider POV The night was quiet as I walked along the edge of the forest. The air was cold, and the ground felt firm beneath my boots. I was supposed to be in my office finishing reports, but when rogues were detected near our borders, I came out to patrol. As Alpha, I always led the search myself. My Beta spoke through the pack link, saying the trail had gone cold. No tracks. No body. No clear signs. That bothered me. Rogues rarely moved without reason. Something about tonight felt wrong, and the feeling sat heavy in my chest like a warning.

Words that taste like defeat and ash. "She is Alpha of all Alphas."

"Four betas. One Alpha." The Alpha was easily distinguishable. It was twenty percent larger than the rest, its armor plated in a darker, gunmetal grey, and its fangs sparked with electrical energy. MOB DETECTED: ALPHA STEEL HOUND (NETWORKED ELITE). LEVEL: 40. HP: 15,000/15,000. "That's the router node," Jax whispered, lying beside Ren. "The betas are slaved to its command frequency. If we capture the Alpha, the rest of the pack—and the real-world drones they represent—will follow."

It's him. The Alpha.

Beta cautioned. Gamma, a spirited and curious wolf, raised their head, their voice filled with determination. "But we have each other, our unwavering spirit, and the strength of our unity. Together, we can overcome any obstacle that comes our way," Gamma proclaimed. As they ventured deeper into the wilderness, the pack encountered towering mountains blocking their path. Alpha, their gaze fixed upon the daunting peaks, called upon the pack for their input. "These mountains pose a formidable challenge. How shall we overcome them?" Alpha asked, their voice carrying an air of curiosity.

His Beta shifts awkwardly beside him, his Gammas looking like they want to shrink into the wall. I turn away in amusement. My eyes meet the female Alpha’s instead. She smiles slowly, deliberately, and I feel a grin tug at my own mouth. There’s a flicker of recognition between us—silent understanding, unspoken alliance. Her plaque reads Alpha Thea of the Valdis Pack. Alpha Thea… Something tells me we’re going to get along splendidly. I’m still faintly amused when a sudden chill brushes across my awareness. Oh. Shit. Dominicus.

No one can unilaterally reject an Alpha. "No! Never!"

Breaking eye contact, I dipped my chin slightly. “If that was true, Alpha, you wouldn’t have let things get to the point that they did.” Hector chuckled at my words, and goosebumps rippled across my arms. “Little wolf,” he said. “Even an Alpha will not get away with doing just about anything he wants whenever he feels like it. That would be indulgent. Dangerous.” My nerve endings stirred at how it almost felt like he had purred that last word into my ear, but I kept my expression neutral.

Aria grimaced, what’s with these old people and getting unnecessarily angry? She just asked for the organization's name. “Uhmm, sir, I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to annoy you. I just wanted to know where I would work. And also, yes, I agree it’s a good offer.” He looked at her for a moment, then his gaze softened. “Alpha’s Turnout,” he said. That was the name. Of course, she had heard that name before; she had wondered what type of name that was. But also, she had admired the decor she saw in magazines.

“Big words from a Beta.” Heather made an appreciative “oh no he didn’t” sound. Liam smiled. “Do I look like a Beta to you?” he asked softly. Gunner’s smile faltered. Because there, in the dark, with Collin’s snarl still vibrating the air and the wards thrumming like live wire and Liam standing naked and unscarred but somehow more dangerous than any of them, even Gunner felt it. Collin Hale was Alpha. Liam carried that bite.
