I looked up at my mate and realized just how far we had come since that time. Theo looked at me and chastely kissed my lips. This day had not gone like we planned at all, but it did not matter. We would get through everything together. ‘Ready, Luna?’ he asked. ‘Lead the way, Alpha,’ I purred, causing his eyes to flash. He nipped my neck in a silent promise that he would be showing me later just what that statement did to him. I could not wait for that because I would never be able to get enough of him.

She bore him two sons. Even though she lived in their house as the Alpha's breeder, they were a happy family when no was watching. Until Alpha Lazarus came to tear them apart. He offered his dad a deal, part of which meant that his baby sister, Thelma Kai, would be his Luna. Being a relatively small pack, his dad, Alpha Rudolph, had to take any hand that was offered. Especially if the hand belonged to one more powerful. Like the Night Storm. Alpha Rudolph mated Thelma Kai, who became the Luna of the Golden Crescent. When she couldn’t bear a child, the elders and everyone else blamed the Alpha's breeder. To avoid getting on Alpha Laz’s bad side, they kicked his mother out of the pack.

Her mother raised an eyebrow, a calculating look forming on her face. “You don’t need to kill her. You need to outsmart her.” She took Samantha’s bloodied hand and squeezed it, as if this moment of violence had solidified something between them. “Since we now know that Theo’s been appointed Alpha of the Dam-Nighade Pack,” her mother whispered. “And they’re still rebuilding… vulnerable… ripe for chaos. If you play this right, you won’t just ruin Rina. You’ll become what you should’ve been all along—Luna.”

Then, the moment passed, and he turned to address his adoring pack, as the newly crowned Alpha. As the ceremony drew to a close, I let out a long sigh, and half of the tension bled from my shoulders. Finally, I was Luna—a title I had never thought I would possess. This new status would wipe away the contempt I'd experienced my entire life as an Omega. My gaze shifted to my mother, who was looking at me with pride. I flashed her my brightest smile, and she responded with a nod. "I love you, Mom." I mouthed, eyes watering again. Damn.

“You are more fragile than we are. One of the new Alphas was moving his mate to his pack and her vehicle was attacked enroute. She’s okay, but a lot of people were hurt and she was held for ransom. She fought Ken, fought hard and was still captured.” I can’t argue that they are less breakable than me, it’s a scientific fact. And a Luna is the heart of her pack, it’s the one thing that makes an Alpha his strongest, but can also destroy him. He just seems to keep forgetting, I am not his Luna. “I’ll be fine.” I mumble noncommittal. “Oh yeah? How are the ribs?” “Wha…?”

He looked me dead in the eye, and for the first time, I saw the monster behind the man I loved. "I, Alpha Harden Silius, reject you, Sylvia Browne, as my mate and my Luna!" The rejection hit me like a physical blow. A scream of pure agony ripped from my throat as the mating bond, the golden thread that was supposed to connect our souls, was snapped in half. It felt like my heart was being pulled out of my chest through a meat grinder. I fell forward, sobbing into the dirt. "Throw her out!" Harden commanded, turning his back on me. "Exile her to the Rogue Lands. If she ever steps foot on our territory again, kill her on sight!"

She still doesn’t shake out of whatever is going on in her head. “And we’ll be so sad to see you go. You didn’t even get to meet the entire alpha fan club. Who knows? You might have found your second chance mate there.” Callie grins and flips her hair over to one side. She’s so quick witted that sometimes it’s scary. “Well I can guarantee I won’t be mating anyone who bullies others. That’s no quality in a Luna.” He says firmly. I can hear the conviction in his voice. A rare occasion that I find myself agreeing with him.

one matronly old Luna whispered to me theatrically, “I tried something like that when I was younger, but then of course I found out he was lying to me, so I ended it.” ”You stopped being Luna?” I asked, shocked. ”No no, I killed him,” the grizzled Luna gave a terrifying smile and patted the arm of her much younger Alpha, “simplified everything fantastically.” ”Oh…” I paled, turning to regard Gideon who stared at me blandly, “Sounds messy.” “Well, yes,” the Luna smiled, “ most Alpha business is,” before she turned away to compliment Dierdra’s dress. “I must say, if I had to guess, you must be the mistress,” a young Alpha bowed to me with a leer.

He gestured to the giant pale-green building. "It has been run and managed by the former Luna since she studied medicine. Sadly, the current Luna doesn’t know a thing or two about medicine."
