Darkness faded away, revealing the beast in front of me. He held onto my hand on his chest. His lashes flicked open. “Eira,” he whispered. “Thank you for survi….” my eyes shut as I collapsed into his arms.

The thought steadied me. At Edward’s side stood another figure draped in dark blue robes, taller, broader, with hair black as raven wings and eyes like liquid gold. King Alaric—the Lycan King. His presence was a storm contained, power rolling off him in waves that made even the strongest warriors shift uneasily. If Edward was fire, Alaric was the shadow it cast. When I reached the dais, Edward stepped forward, his gaze never leaving me. His hand brushed mine, warm and grounding. “You look…” His voice was low, meant for me alone. “…like the Moon Goddess herself.”
