’ Realizing that Grace was right, Amara let out a huge sigh and nodded slowly. “Thanks for reminding me. My mom was the one who named me,” she stated in a sad tone. I felt my heart break as I watched her face. I knew my words were not enough to heal her pain. I hugged her again, showing my love and support.

“Talk to me, Ama. What’s going on?” Amara took a deep breath, meeting his gaze. “I’ve realized something,” she said, voice trembling with emotion but carrying newfound strength. “I can’t keep letting fear dictate my life. I’ve been living in the shadows of expectations and threats, instead of choosing the life I want. And I’ve realized… I want you. I need you. Not halfway, not with hesitation. I need us fully.”

I tossed the ones I’d just worn into the wash before heading back out. Amaya was in the living room, crouched over the TV, flipping through streaming options. Her hair was still damp, her legs folded under her on the couch. “What movie is it?” I asked, moving closer. She glanced over her shoulder at me and her lips began to quiver like she was hiding a grin. “Something light. You’ve probably never watched it before.” “Try me,” I challenged, sitting down on the couch beside her. “It’s a rom-com.”
