After what felt like an eternity, Damon finally spoke, his voice low and steady, tinged with sadness Darius couldn’t yet understand.
“Okay,” Damon said, stepping back. “I’ll stay away from Amara. If that’s what you want—you can have her.”
Darius blinked in disbelief. “You will?”
Damon nodded, his expression unreadable. “I’ll distance myself from her. If that’s what you need. I promise you—I’ll keep my distance.”
For a moment, Darius couldn’t believe what he was hearing. His heart raced with the possibility, with hope—that maybe, just maybe, he would finally have something that wasn’t overshadowed by Damon.
