Not immediately.” I stood abruptly and began to pace, my shoes cutting harsh lines across the polished floor. “But they don’t leave like that,” I snapped at the empty room. “Not all at once. Not without a reason.” I dragged a hand through my hair, fingers tugging harder than necessary. “They don’t walk away clean unless someone makes them afraid.” The words sat heavy in the air. I stopped near the window, staring out at the city—cars moving, people living, the world spinning forward while mine stalled.

My head is spinning. Should I walk away… or stay and fight?

I then walked to the door, my strides long and heavy, almost as if I could not stand being in here anymore. "Don't you dare walk away from me." Amanda warned. But I didn't listen. I walked out, heart heavy. I walked to my car, and no one stopped me when I sped out.

“I’ve done what you wanted. I’ve played my part. Isn’t that enough?” I walk towards the house, leaving the party behind. Each step feels like a small act of defiance, a way to reclaim some shred of my autonomy. I hear Anna shouting after me, telling me not to walk away, but I don’t stop. I can’t. I need to escape, if only for a moment, from the nightmare my life has become.
