Akyran's Folly
The movement from the light was such that I recoiled, into Akyran, and yet the walkway remained covered by their dead, their glossy carapaces cracking beneath the weight of our feet.
“I don’t remember you being frightened of bugs,” Akyran said quietly. I had pressed my back up against him so tightly, that I stood between his feet, and his breath touched my cheek.
“I am not frightened of them,” I replied, defensively. “I’ve just fought these one’s giant cousins often enough to have learnt to be wary of them.”
“Hmm. I can carry you if you like,” he offered, only half teasing.
