Strange noises echoed around us—whispers, growls, the rustle of unseen creatures.
“I don’t like this,” Fatima said, her hand resting on the hilt of her knife. “It feels like we’re being herded.”
Before anyone could respond, a low growl rumbled through the air, freezing us in our tracks.
“What was that?” I whispered, my heart racing.
Jake held up a hand, signaling for silence. He sniffed the air, his eyes narrowing.
“Wolves,” he said.
“But... not our kind,” Althea added, her voice trembling.
