"This is specifically designed for corrupted phoenixes. Like you, dear Mona." She threw it—not at me, but at Maya. Instinct took over. I dove, pushing my twin aside, feeling the vial shatter against my shoulder. The venom hit my corrupted fire and ignited into agony. Not burning—unmaking. Each drop eating through my essence like acid through paper.

The whispers in the glass started to fade, drowned out by the wet sounds of our bodies slapping together and the desperate, animalistic sounds we were making. Vane was at my neck before I even registered the movement, his teeth sinking into my throat so hard I felt my blood well up and spill down my collarbone. His venom burned as it surged through my veins, hot and electric and so potent that I felt my toes curl against the glass. He was feeding me his venom, pumping it directly into my bloodstream, marking me from the inside out.

I turned around and saw one of the creatures of darkness smiling, licking its claws filled with my blood. “Damn it!” I exclaimed, grabbing the creature by the head, crushing its skull, and throwing the body onto the witch, pushing them both away. “Cowardly witch!” “Oh, little wolf, don't be like that. I won't be naive to face you alone,” she laughed, seeing me injured. “Looks like it hurts. Manticore venom is extremely potent; your organs start melting, causing your slow and painful death from the inside out. Isn't it fun?”

Could smell the antiseptic and underneath it something else — something that felt, horribly, like the room already giving up. "Do it," I heard myself say. Everyone looked at me. "Do it." My voice steadied as I said it again. "I'd rather he die fighting than just — stop. Don't let him just stop." Katya studied me for a long moment. Then she nodded once. "Very well." The third antidote looked like blood. Dark red. Thick. Devon handled the glass vial with the careful reverence of someone who knew exactly what it was capable of. "This is derived from vampire venom," he said, drawing it into a syringe with hands that weren't entirely steady. "It works by overwhelming the foreign compound — forcin

she said with a flirtatious smile to Jepson before giving Antoh her full attention. “I have always had a dislike for needles,” Antoh whined as Lizzy inserted the anti-venom into his system. Lizzy smiled with satisfaction while Jepson and his companion held firm as the vampire leader twisted and writhed from the painful effects of the special cocktail created just for him. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that.” Beads of bloody perspiration formed on Antoh’s flesh and bloody tears slid down his cheeks. In his agony, he reverted to his native Russian which, like Chloe, Lizzy was fluent in. “What have you done? What is happening?”

Also, it will allow my screams to sound more realistic. The injuries from a bullwhip are also the least extensive, so they will be healed the quickest. Although my wolf isn’t at full strength yet, my healing abilities can handle multiple lashes.” I explained.

Its eyes glowed in the darkness, and its tongue flicked out, like a snake tasting the air. My blood ran cold. The creature hissed again, its tongue darting out as it spat a stream of venom directly at Alina. Without thinking, I threw myself in front of her.
