You don’t have to worry.” “Thanks,” she said, rummaging around in her purse until she pulled out an e-reader. “While you two massacre worms, or whatever baiting a hook entails, I’m going to get some reading done.” “Have fun,” I smiled, then grabbed my tackle box and went to Annie. We spent about an hour going through all the different things I brought with me. It surprised me when I realized I was having fun teaching her things my father taught me. It felt good to impart knowledge to someone so eager and excited to learn about the topic at hand.

She looked radiant in a flowing summer dress, her long auburn hair catching the sunlight, hazel eyes sparkling with warmth, full lips curved in a genuine smile. Her figure was breathtaking: generous curves, an hourglass shape that turned heads everywhere she went.

My mind wasn’t really on studying. I turned a corner and nearly bumped into someone. Professor Kane stood there, holding a thick book. He looked tired but still handsome in his button-down shirt. His eyes widened when he saw me. “Lila,” he said softly. I froze. “Professor. I… I should go.” I turned to leave, but his hand gently caught my arm. “Wait. Please.” The library was silent around us. No one else seemed to be in this section. The smell of old books and quiet air made everything feel intimate again.

The woman climbed a short ladder and began pulling down a few books. “These should help,” she said, setting five large, dusty tomes on a nearby table. “Sorry about the condition they’re ancient. Let me know if you need anything.” “Thank you,” Anna said as the woman walked away. Rhea and Anna sat cross-legged on the floor beside the table, surrounded by the stack of heavy books. Their covers were worn, their spines cracked, and the pages yellowed with time. Each had a unique title: 'Tales of the Mystical Creatures', 'Powers', 'Hidden Behind the Voice', and two others with faded letters too difficult to read.

I turn back once and when I'm certain the woman isn't staring, I take out Renae's book and flip the pages. It's...empty.
