Haizer didn't respond. We pulled up to the Avante Pavilion, all sleek glass and quiet elegance. I grabbed the bag I'd packed—fresh fruit, oranges and apples, Aofie's favorites, and a new book about knights and dragons. He devoured those stories, dreaming of heroes slaying beasts.
Haizer quietly walked beside me, all the way to Aofie's room. He was sitting up in bed, his small frame looking stronger than the last time I'd seen him.
