Chapter 29 Third Person’s POV The rain was terrifying yet comforting that night—it was beautifully tragic as it floods the land—the water wasn’t murky. It was clear and the rain that fell to wash the land rid of impurities was warm and comforting. Lux loved it. He loved how chaos was both beautiful and poetic even if it destroyed a lot of thing. He loved the flowing water and he loved how the rain cascaded down his naked body as he stood under the shower that the clouds provided.

I planted a kiss on each of their foreheads before getting up. Glancing through the transparent window, I started to appreciate the beauty of the droplets from the sudden downpour of rain through the sparkling glass. Noticing a familiar book on the bedside, I hesitantly picked it up and walked towards the balcony. The cold gush of midnight wind welcomed me in glory. The heavy rain surrenders herself unto the ocean, each fragment rippling gracefully and slowly becoming a part of the body of brine sea-lace. The untouched tray of food lay forgotten as she drifted towards the window, her gaze lost in the relentless downpour. As she gazed at the torrential rain beating down on the lush foliage, she watched the tiny rivulets that had emerged on the earth, tracing their way through the landscape. Each droplet was a note in the symphony of her despair, the rivulets on the glass a map of her shattered expectations.

“Let’s see it.” I turned the paper over, and revealed the poem scrawled in pencil on the back. Down the streets of woodland black I wander, earth to hearse In every tree I see a wave A looming tidal curse On the cusp of something greater Stood ankle-deep in floodwater Stagnant pools of brown and red The onslaught is coming; I dread For each dark night and each pearl day The mist does clear too soon The floodplain is drown’d again The water, torn from its ocean womb

" Winston’s hand slowly went limp. The umbrella slipped completely from his grasp, hitting the wet concrete floor with a soft, hollow thud. Ethan walked up to my side. He didn't hold an umbrella over my head for me. Instead, he simply placed a closed umbrella directly into my hand. "Natalie, the choice is entirely yours." I took the umbrella from him and snapped it open. The sound of the rain drumming against the canvas canopy was incredibly light and gentle. Winston stood frozen in the downpour, his bloodshot eyes watching me through the sheets of water. But I never looked back. Because that storm had already stopped in the past.

"Maybe,just maybe Sam's right.." I sighted and sat down on the ground like a ball has been covered up in sadness while looking up to the sky and took a deep breath before taking all of the small pebbles on the ground I saw and throw it as strong as I can to the lake and started to drown the emotions inside me. Outside, I hear it before I feel it—the whisper of water on leaves, the gentle percussion that means the sky has opened again. The first drop strikes the stable roof like a question. Then another. Like a slow curtain falling from gray heavens, the rain begins again—washing away my last hope of escape.
