She thanked Missi and reached to close the door. Missi turned to leave. She was wearing a dark gray sleeveless shirt, and Leesa found her eyes drawn to a blue tattoo on the back of Missi’s right shoulder. The tattoo was heart-shaped and looked like it was fashioned out of blue flames. The blue fire immediately made Leesa think of Rave. She hadn’t seen him in over a week, which was at least a week too long as far as she was concerned. If she ever got brave enough to get a tattoo, she decided she would get one similar to Missi’s. A heart made out of blue fire would be the perfect symbol if her love for Rave. She smiled as she wondered what kind of tattoo Rave could get to display his love for

“I’m here for a tattoo.” He leaned back, arms folding across his broad chest. The motion made the fabric of his shirt strain. “You? A tattoo?” He laughed, low and cruel. “Let me guess. Tiny heart on your wrist? Or maybe a quote about ‘strength’ in some flowery script so everyone knows how deep you are.” I pulled out my phone and showed him the design. “Lower back. Crescent moon with vines. I have the reference.”

I will have to carry the pairing chip around, so this will be entirely my choice. Just a few minutes later, the tattoo is done, and Ara is standing by a mirror checking it out. The design is beautiful, with interlaced stars and a colorful pattern of gold and silver connections between them. "Sir, what stone have you chosen?" she says, opening up a plastic organizer box. "The Rose Diamonds," I say. Nancy pauses and looks up at me. "Sir, those are—" "Thank you, Nancy. The tattoo looks great," Ara cuts her off unintentionally. "Oh, sorry," she adds once she realizes we're both looking at her.

“I’ll just change and be right back.” My breath hitched as I watched him peel off the shirt. His back was turned to me, and I couldn’t help but stare at the ripple of his muscles, the way his skin stretched over the lean strength of his body. He moved with the fluid grace of a wolf, and something about the sight stirred something deep within me. But then, something else caught my eye. A small tattoo on the back of Tariq’s shoulder—a triangle with three circles inside. It was strange, almost out of place on him. My curiosity piqued.

I simply stared back at him for a moment, mentally wondering why would he want to know about that, since actually there wasn’t anything interesting about my tattoo. It was just a simple one, representing two zodiac signs, mine and my brother’s. “Okay. Fine,” I finally agreed, giving him a small nod while he simply kept on watching me, silently inviting me to tell the story. I then lowered my gaze to the two tangled zodiac signs, inked in black on the inside of my forearm, sighing as I remembered exactly what determined me to have it. “I was actually only fifteen when I had it...” I started, letting out a small, humourless chuckle,

Then he gets up from the stool and starts taking off his shirt. I freeze. What’s he doing? I watch him pull the fabric off over his head, and my mouth falls open again. Sure, I’ve seen him shirtless. But I’ve just seen tattoos as a whole. Now, I’m seeing the details. Different types of tattoos. I look up at him, my voice a whisper. “You got tattoos?” He smiles softly. “I... uh... I got this one when I turned ten.” He says, pointing to a small, intricate tattoo of a glass vase situated just below his left nipple.

They rippled slightly as the tattoo gun continued it's work. Deft gloved hands drew and colored the skin. A quick swipe removed excess ink. Heavily tattooed arms moved with each stroke, the artwork colorful and bright with splotches of pinks, blues, purples, and greens. She marveled at those arms, strong, tight, and remarkably hairless. The artist wore a black sleeveless shirt, cut to resemble a tank top with wide cut underarms. A faded yellow batman logo was printed on the front. The artist wore tight blue jeans, revealing wide hips and a round ass. Grey boxes poked out of the back as she hunched over her work.

“No way. I can take it. This tattoo is important to me, Alex.” I grin at her response. That’s my Stella—stubborn and determined to the core. She bites her lip, and her grip on my hand tightens as the needle continues its work. I stroke her knuckles with my thumb, hoping to ease some of her discomfort. “Just think about how amazing it’ll look once it’s done.” She grins at me. “I can’t wait.” Minutes later, the artist finishes, and the designs are perfect. On my wrist, the heart has the letter ‘S’ inscribed inside, and on hers, an elegant A.

I mused, popping a piece of bread in my mouth. “You, a tattoo? Good girl Sophia with permanent ink, I can’t picture it..” He teased me and I couldn’t help but smile. “I resent that statement.” I scoffed, throwing a hand over my heart in mock offence. Jasper’s smile widened, “What would you get?” He leaned back in his seat with his arms crossed over his chest. “The elements; air, fire, earth and water and a crescent moon with a shadow.” The image had been playing in my head for a while.

The skin around the gash was red and puffy, and it stung fiercely as the maid dabbed at it with a new, clean cloth. She then gathered a spool of pristine white linen bandages from her basket of supplies and placed it on the vanity. She reached back to the basket, this time choosing a small earthenware jar, and the sleeve of her dress rode up slightly to reveal a strange white tattoo. The symbol was like nothing I had ever seen before. It consisted of a series of moons, each in a different phase and arranged in a circle to complete the cycle. White script in a language that I couldn’t read looped around the edge of the moons, spiraling inwards towards the center of the cycle.
