I approached the guarded gate with no resemblance to that shy girl who'd been cast out. The two Beta guards, towering wolves both with Damon's cold eyes, immediately sighted me. "Well, well, well. She couldn't have been more than sixteen or seventeen, dressed in an oversized black hoodie and expensive leggings, her dark hair pulled into a messy, effortless bun. She sat there and watched as Alice balanced herself into the chair like it was hers. She turned to a portrait of Calhoun on the window pane and looked into it. "You and all your riches will be mine!" She giggled and Ariana felt her heart slice. She wasn't hurt. She was angry.

Selene's smile sharpened into something with teeth in it. "There's a portrait in an unused wing of this castle. A woman who looks remarkably like you, right down to the eyes. I understand the Queen was quite shaken to find you standing in front of it." The words landed like a blow, and Aurora fought to keep her face neutral even as her pulse roared in her ears. I was feeling better though not completely to my full strength, I stretched my body and gasped when I find the nymphs sitting by the end of my bed. "My queen, King Arkael told us to wait for you while he's in discussion with Rain and King Ranulf. Our demon sorcerer made this concoction for you to heal faster. We will get King Arkael after you finish drinking this. It was the sorcerer's specific instruction that he had to be by your side once you took it." Sabina handed me the goblet, I was weary and skeptical about taking it. But these were Arkael's people, he trusted them. So I took it and start drinking it, it was sweet and a bit lumpy and too thick but I managed to finish it.

Then the first figure raised a hand. The abyss shifted again—this time revealing an image Ariana had never seen before. A little girl. White hair. Silver eyes. A crescent birthmark glowing faintly on her wrist. Ariana sucked in a breath. “That’s… me.” The image zoomed out. Her mother was holding her, tears streaking her cheeks. But she wasn’t alone. Another woman—cloaked, face hidden—stood before her mother, chanting ancient runes over Ariana’s tiny body.

"Older than the kingdoms. Older than the wolves. Older than the witches." Ryan’s expression did not change, but something in his posture shifted. "And it recognized you," he said. Aria nodded slowly. "Not me exactly. What is inside me." The words settled heavily in the room. Ryan straightened. "The phoenix." Aria did not confirm it, but she did not deny it either. Caleb let out a quiet, humorless laugh. "Great. So not only are we dealing with mages, hunters, and whatever political mess is waiting for us out there, now the mountain itself is interested."

I whispered to her. "Why would the house keeper clean the area immediately? She's hiding something," she trailed off. At least she had a point, but their caretaker was too old and it would be impossible for her to hurt someone. But who knows? Arya suddenly approached Jaika which surprised us all. Even Mrs. Roque was also alerted. "Jaika! Are you cosplaying?" she chortled. "Yes. How did you find out?" She pointed at the picture on the top of the shelf where Jaika was smiling as Hermione Granger of the Harry Potter series.
