His breath brushed my skin as he lowered his face to sniff, the tip of his nose grazing me. I went rigid. The contact sent a jolt of shivers down my spine. Too close. He lingered at the crook, sniffing harder. For a horrible second, I thought he might bite. Instead, he pulled back. His grip loosened, and my hair slipped free from his hand. “A girl,” Fenric announced. The words hit the air like a verdict. Before I could even draw a full breath, Brammon turned and seized Arlo by the throat. My brother’s feet left the ground as easily as if he weighed nothing.

Not only that, every bow and arrow that Master Hugh has in his facility was designed or at least modified by the Darthar brothers. They seemed to be on good terms with each other. However, interestingly enough, even master Hugh didn't know that Rolin had a brother until Creed told him what exactly happened there. Regardless, now Creed had a fragile hope to latch on too. As if he couldn’t accept what he’d just heard, Cole stepped forward and roughly grabbed my wrist. My sleeve was pulled back, revealing the large patches of shocking purple bruises beneath—dark against my pale skin. They were marks left behind by needles repeatedly piercing my veins during blood draws. Cole’s fingers began to tremble. He stared at the bruises, his voice breaking as he demanded, “Why? Sadie! Why would you do something like that? Are you crazy? Why?”

Aaron. His brother—no, adoptive brother—looked exactly the same. Blond hair neatly combed, expression soft in that familiar way that always felt rehearsed. He didn’t hesitate. Didn’t speak. Just crossed the distance between them in long strides and wrapped Ashton in a tight embrace. “We’ve missed you,” Aaron said quietly, and Ashton fought the urge to push him away “All of us.” Ashton didn’t hug him back. Having Aaron hug him now made things feel too real. It reminded him that he had left his companion, his fellow hunters and was here, hugging their enemy.

“Ethan’s cruelty has no limits. Even now, he seeks to control you.” I pulled back slightly, my lips trembling. “Can it be broken?” He looked at me, his eyes blazing with determination. “Yes,” he said, his voice low and certain. “But it will not be easy. A blood oath is ancient magic, and to sever it, we must fight it with blood of our own.” A shiver ran through me. “What does that mean?” “It means,” he said, cupping my face in both hands, “that I will need to make my own vow, stronger than his. I will need to bind you to me—not as a possession, but as a protection. And to do that, blood must be spilled.”

Then her phone rang. She blinked and reached for it on the bed. The screen showed: Uncle Mario. She hesitated, then answered. “I hope you love everything,” his voice came through, calm but heavy. Amara froze. She didn’t expect the gifts to come from him. For a moment, she didn’t even know what to say. Mario continued, “Blood is thicker than water. Always remember... Leone blood runs in your vein. Even if our family is not smooth, don’t spit on your family name.”

Arlo hates the sight of his brother’s arrogant presence. His superior demeanor. His calm affect. Everything that makes him who he is. His brother acts as if he is better than everyone. As if he is better than him, just because he is born with the so called pure blood. But he is not. Because the same tainted blood of their father runs through both of them. Arlo keen eyes searches for a sign to tell show him how much his comment got under his brother’s skin, but he gets nothing for his effort.

I looked at Toby, whose face had gone deathly pale. “Another brother?” I whispered, the word tasting like copper. “Another ghost?” “Not a ghost,” Arthur said. “He’s thirty-two. He’s a high-frequency trader in London. And he’s on his way here. He says he has the DNA results. He says he has the letters.”

I patted his shoulder “Thanks Fai! I won’t be here without you! Brian and Anna too, thanks!” “What had I said earlier, I’ll say it again,” Anna got up and hugged both of us, she then said “I’m proud of you! Both of you had passed a hard time and I never felt better when I saw both of you stand together, until the end. Blood is thicker than water!” She released us and smiled “Thanks to you, Ann!” Damian held her hand and I smiled. I put my hand on her hand too and added, “Yeah, I couldn’t agree more! Thanks Ann, thanks for always being with us.”

AURORA I could tell Darien was getting angry, but he didn’t have to. The seer was right; I did miss my brother. He may have been horrible towards me in the past, but I still missed him. Just seeing his face and knowing he is alright will do for me. “He is right Darien, I do miss my brother, blood is thicker than water, at least to me.”
