I rested my face between my hands and laughed incredulously at how stupid I was at that not-so-distant time. In spite of everything, I felt happy to have learned a lot and grown from it all. The submissive and foolish Helena no longer existed and I couldn't be prouder. As Queen Beyoncé would say: Who run the world? Girls! Which meant that no man deserves to waste our time and our mental health. I opened the book, hoping that I could concentrate on the subject, since my mind kept focusing on only one thing: John and Cassie's breakup.

Chapter 2 — A Dangerous Attraction The atmosphere in the club had shifted from exhilarating to suffocating. The bass from the speakers didn't just play anymore; it thumped against Aiden’s ribs like a rhythmic warning. He sat at the bar, swirling the amber liquid in his glass, trying to drown out the memory of Liner’s voice and the persistent, prickly sensation that he was being watched. He tried to ignore Justine’s earlier teasing, the hollow ache of his heartbreak, and the unsettling silhouette he had seen through the glass upstairs.

She was about to leave with Maeve, but it was too late.

They’re doing shots of espresso in your honor!” She smiled, letting him pull her back into the light. But even as the door shut and the noise returned, she could still feel Micah’s eyes on her — steady, unassuming, almost reverent. And for the first time, she wondered if maybe the way he saw her wasn’t the way anyone else ever would.

Leo shouted. Luca's eyes darted back and forth from Leo to Maisie. Just then Maisie’s eyes opened and their eyes locked. She screamed through her eyes at him to not leave her behind with Leo. Maisie felt as though her soul had left her body when Luca slowly looked away and walked toward the door. She held her breath as she watched the door close behind him leaving her alone with the devil himself.
