“I should’ve come last year,” she murmured against my shoulder, thumb rubbing slow circles. Rough voice. “Should’ve walked away with you.”
“You have now.” I pulled away to press my palms against her cheek, studying her face. Glassy eyes, steady. Hard. Heartbreaking. “That’s what matters.”
She nodded slowly. “I cut it. Cut the bond. Callum doesn’t know yet. Doesn’t really know. He felt it when it broke, but he’s too proud to see what that means.”
