His eyes were completely orange in appearance and that freaked her out even more than she already was. I had to pinch myself to be sure I wasn't in fantasy land again. "Feeling better?" His rich velvety voice resonated in the backyard. It's masculinity snapping me back to reality. "Y…y…yes, I'm better." I couldn't even give a proper response, not after those hands had attended so tenderly to my feet.

Still it's better than being killed by mom on the way to school. I got out a pair of black ankle booties with a brown thick heel. The heel wasn't very tall just a couple inches. Enough to give me a little height boost but not make me look like a giant. I did braid my hair to the side just in case as well. I didn't want to worry about the mark peeking or anything. "That works too. I can't even see it." Ash commented as he entered the room. He looked right at the spot where my mark sits, but he couldn't see it. "Ready to go?"

"I need... I need some time." He turned and strode out of the room, ignoring the calls of the others behind him. His footsteps echoed down the hallway, each one louder than the last, until he burst through the door into the crisp night air. The forest loomed ahead, dark and silent, a haven from the chaos threatening to consume him. Without hesitation, Asher broke into a run. His muscles burned, his lungs heaved, but he didn’t stop. The wind lashed at his face, cold and biting, as if trying to strip away the layers of pain and confusion that weighed him down.

The black flats were soft and comfortable, both the upper and the sole. Even with the injuries on Camila’s feet, as long as she didn’t put too much pressure on them, the pain was manageable. She took a quiet breath, placed her feet together, and lowered her head. “I’ll pay you back.” Asher, who had been about to return to the driver’s seat, glanced at her. “No need,” he said calmly. “I’ve got some savings. It may not be much compared to your family’s, but it’s more than enough to buy you a pair of shoes.”

Asher asked sniffing the air but couldn't sense any smell from him. Cassie walked out from behind Asher wearing black leather pants with some knives strapped on her thighs, looking all badass like always. She hadn't changed much even after these years, rather she looked even more youthful and beautiful. “Well, hate to break this little reunion, but we have an army of undying rogues at our backs. And if we don't run, even your badass powers won't be able to save us. And hey, what's up with your new looks? Is it me or have Knox really turned to a grandpa?” she asked gazing at the three.

I don’t move, I just breathe, keeping my shoulders relaxed and eyes on the ground. Asher stops before me. In black boots, black jeans just stopping at the hilt of his boots, the smell of honey and cinnamon assaulting my nose, so intoxicating and alluring. I couldn’t help but look up slowly at him. At 6’ 7, I had to crane my neck up to see him. Asher was no small man, a giant man with long dark hair, the color of midnight, flowing down to his tanned chin. His bright predatory yellow eyes, the color of the sun, staring down at me, causing the tiny hairs on my arms to stand at attention.
