The prose is stark, almost clinical at times, which makes the moments of slipped memory feel like a punch.

I’d skip the popular epilogues that have them holding hands and watching sunsets. The depth is in the unresolved, the unsaid. Another interesting angle is in crossover fics, oddly enough. There’s a 'Life is Strange' crossover where Frisk’s SAVE power and Max’s rewind create this twisted mirror, and Asriel perceives the timeline fractures. It’s more about the metaphysics of connection than fluffy feelings, and that carries its own kind of melancholy. You have to dig for these, though. The front page of the tag is usually clogged with softer, simpler stuff.

Stumbled upon this exact craving a while back. Honestly, I had to dig. AO3's the most reliable starting point—just use their search filters. Tag 'Alternate Universe' and the ship 'Frisk/Asriel' or 'Charisk', then sort by kudos or date. That usually surfaces the classics and ongoing stuff. Some writers go full AU with fantasy settings or college AUs, while others tweak the Pacifist route ending just enough to let them explore a relationship. The 'Underfell' or 'Handplates' AUs can have interesting darker dynamics between them if you're into that angst.
