Her words hit me like physical blows, each one designed to tear at my already fragile emotional state. "What are you doing here?" I asked, my voice low and cold. Astrid's smile widened, revealing perfect white teeth that looked almost predatory in the gray light. "I came to give you some wonderful news," she said, stepping closer with confident strides. Without warning, she reached out and knocked my umbrella aside. The sudden movement sent it spinning away from us, leaving me exposed to the cold rain.
