He exuded an aura of confidence that was neither intimidating, bitingly sarcastic, violent nor magnetic. His name was Attus, and he had the aura of a man that every girl would trust as a best friend, but nobody would ever date. He was not a nerd or weird looking. The floor tiles underneath Atticus’ feet cracked right there and then. “Hmph…” Atticus looked at Kayson in slight disbelief, his face flushed. Atticus was blasted away, and his steelification failed him. A pit about the size of a fist appeared on his chest. Hendrick and the others shook in fear as they witnessed the scene in a daze. ‘A-Am I dreaming? Kayson crippled the man who beat the master to death with a few strikes!?’

Atticus growls, adding additional levels to the command that makes Karina whimper. Atticus takes one last look at the bloody mess of corpses and walks away without a backward glance towards his mate.

Atticus The sound of Lily’s howl made something earthen, something primal, roar to life in Atticus’s chest. He howled back, an Alpha calling to his Luna, to his mate. There were no complications here, like this: there was just the craggy silhouette of trees above and the rumpled earth below, with darkness filling every cavern in between. It was not the darkness of hate or shadows; it was the cool balm of the shade on a summer’s day, the comfort of solitude shared with another. Atticus revelled in it, his huge black body blurring with it as he moved through the woods.

As the words leave his lips, Holly gives him a confused look. “What?” He asks, smirking. “Do you think your tricks will work on me? Sorry to burst your bubble, but I’m not a human that is easily swayed by the tricks of a succubus.” Eyes widening, I take in his words while Tabitha looks from Holly to me before her expression turns neutral, as if she doesn’t want us to know what she is thinking. Hell, I couldn’t blame her. Not after what was just revealed. “Now, come with me,” Atticus continues, giving her a tug. “You’re going to jail for attempted murder.”

“I’m sorry, what?” Immediately, Phoenix appeared at the side of the frame, looking worried. “Why would you suddenly want to go where your mom is, huh, Atti?” He shrugged, swinging his legs on the bed. “Because… my online friend is from there. I want to meet him.” I blinked, stunned. Online friend? Since when…? “Atticus,” I said slowly, “what online friend?” “We got close through gaming,” he answered innocently, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Atticus hissed and snapped at him, hating this cat-and-mouse game as much as I did. “I would tell you to give up, but I rather like your tenacity to keep fighting,” Zaiden teased, mocking me. “No worries, you’ll soon understand you’re no match for me, mutt.” He leaped deftly behind me and kicked me in the ribs, eliciting a painful yelp from Atticus.
