No one had noticed it set above the dais until it rang. The senior warden smiled thinly. “Before declarations, a demonstration. The Devotion lattice answers its maker. It lights up to their pulse.” Sandra’s smile faltered. “Of course.” She pressed her palms to the silver frame and pushed energy into the rings. Nothing happened. She tried again. A faint flicker, then darkness. A ripple of murmurs. Lycus’s expression hardened. A bead of sweat traced Sandra’s temple. The warden folded his hands. “Perhaps the true maker will indulge us?”

Regina started bawling, and Martha's expression softened. Zeri spoke up once more. She blinked twice and exhaled deeply. "I heard Sandro's heart last night; I've heard his heart's song before: peaceful, happy, and positive, but last night, at Mt. Noah, I heard it again." I hissed squirming. “Just watch. The fun is about to begin.” The man tilted my face towards the stage where Alpha Woods now spoke confidently about borders and praising his daughter. “Now I would like to remind everyone of the rules.” Alpha Woods spoke right as an arrow whizzed over everyone's heads. Impaling him in the neck. I watched horror struck. Seeing my Alphas eyes widen in shock. He locked eyes with me opening a mind-link ‘Get Kayla to safety’ I heard his voice fade near the end. A second later his body went slack landing on the floor with a dull thud.

Was she expecting someone? The longer I lay there, the more relaxed my body became. The sounds from outside that slipped in through the open door soon became like a faint stream of white noise. The orange streaks of sun flooding in through the windows soon became a thick warm blanket that descended upon me. Before long, the curiosity that'd been peaked by the muffled voices quickly became overshadowed by the surge of drowsiness that washed over me. "Hey, Cash?" I blinked, rubbing at my eyes drowsily. Panic fills me immediately and I take a step back moving out of it's reach as white wisps like flow upwards towards my hands. "No, stay away" I tell it, fanning away the small billows that move towards me. Some manage to wrap around my feet and I feel as if the ground has someone become soft and sandy, Pulling me downwards. They continue to wrap, back and forth, hand and waist while I use my other to fan the smokey assailant, it's arms crumbling before reforming once more. I can't scream, voice stuck in my throat, sinking further into the quick sand that has become my room, until I'm fully covered and falling through thick darkness.

After what seems like a lifetime of emptiness and silence apart from the fucking dripping faucet, a loud screeching sound disperses through the room and I jump with fright – quickly regaining my composure, hoping that no one noticed. “Ahhh, my beautiful wife-to-be has returned to me.” I hear the sarcasm dripping from Sandros’ tone of voice that compels me to inhale a sharp breath. On what planet did I truly believe that I wouldn’t be forced to cross paths with him as long as he is still filling his lungs with air? Drip. Drip. Drip. “Remove the pillowcase from her head. I want to see my wife.” Sandro orders in his most prominent tone.
