I see the irritation my father’s face, but he glances at me. “I’ll be back in a bit. And don’t try to stick soldiers to me again.” The last part is aimed at Austin, the tone almost nasty. “This is my daughter’s home now. I will come and go as I please.” Austin doesn’t say anything, but closes the door when my father leaves. He leans against it, watching me. “How are you feeling?”

Sure this wasn't the right time to bring up a relationship to the family but that was no excuse for his lousy behavior. Even so, her presence should be a thing of happiness for the entire family. Here was a solution to the senseless war between the vampire hunters that seemed to never end. Austin’s voice turned into melancholy, and he interjected. “But in the end, my father...” She clenched her fist into her chest. “After all the rejection, the suffering, the heartaches, he lost, right?”

Austin said, his gaze focused on me. "Meet who? What are you talking about?" I asked, my confusion evident in my tone and eyes. "My father. He came back to Anwood to get me," Austin said as shock washed over me. "What! Your father, I thought he died," I said as a pained smile formed on Austin's face. "I thought he was dead too, but it turns out the one that died wasn't my biological father but my stepfather," Austin explained. You could hear the pain in his voice.

As a caring father who has nothing more important than his daughters in this world, he wouldn’t run after his instincts while Avra was sad. And what is he doing right now? When he turned his gaze at me again, his eyes were already red-rimmed. “Willow, let me see Artie just once.
