I was prepping the ceremonial cloak for our seventh mating anniversary. The front door suddenly banged open. My son rushed inside, tears streaming down his face. "The teacher yelled at me," he sobbed. He shoved the wrinkled drawing into my hands before burying his face in my shirt. I smoothed out the paper to see what the drama was about. It was a sketch of a faceless woman titled: The Substitute Mom. My heart stopped as I read the scribbles underneath. "Daddy said she is the backup."

Mel shook her head, seeing how Kelly was annoyed that she wasn't doing much task, yet she was the one ogling everything to herself. Mel looked back at the workers, who were forced to move back. They gave her a tight smile, showing how they are uncomfortable. Mel nodded her head at them and pulled off the gloves on her hands. She moved back and felt Kelly's gaze following after her. "You guys can take it from here. I will go join…." Mel wasn't sure what to call Bryce's mom. She just had the hunch that she's his mom and wasn't a hundred percent sure. "Her, in the living room." She completed her words and the cooks nodded in response.
