I knew the answer. He would burn the world down for me. It was almost dawn when I heard the sound of boots approaching. I braced myself, expecting a blow, a threat—anything. He reached out and tilted my chin up with one finger. “You really are something, Ava,” he said quietly, just as everything around me turned to black.
