TABOO (A DEAL WITH THE SHADOW ALPHA)
My heart jumped into my throat.
“That’s the driver,” I said, smoothing my hair one last time.
Jules winked. “Go get ‘em, tiger.”
I opened the door, a practiced, polite smile on my face.
It wasn’t the driver.
Axel stood in my hallway. He was dressed in dark trousers and a simple grey t-shirt that clung to his chest and arms in a way that should be illegal. He looked more casual than I’d ever seen him, and somehow even more powerful. His eyes did a quick, sweeping scan of me—from my face, down to the backless top and leather pants—and for a second, I wished I’d worn a potato sack. I braced for a comment about it being too much for travel.
